Tesla Loses Less Money as Model 3 Sales Surge
Tesla surprised many analysts and investors earlier this month when it said it delivered a record 95,200 cars in the second quarter, a roughly 50 percent increase from the first three months of the year. The news lifted its sagging stock price as well as the spirits of its customers and many fans.

On Wednesday, the company said that surge in sales also lifted its bottom line. Tesla said it lost $408 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $702 million in the first quarter when sales slumped as the company struggled with logistical challenges, including getting its Model 3 sedans to Europe and China.

The second-quarter loss amounted to $2.31 per share. Revenue jumped to $6.3 billion, from $4.5 billion in the first three months of the year.

Tesla batteries are keeping Zimbabwe’s economy running
.
Zimbabweans are relying on Tesla to help them pay their bills.

Amid power outages of as long as 18 hours a day, Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s biggest mobile-phone operator, is turning to the Palo Alto, California-based automaker and storable-energy company for batteries that can keep its base stations running.

The southern African country faces chronic shortages of physical cash, so almost all transactions are done digitally, and many via mobile phones.
The installation of 520 Powerwall batteries, with two going into each base station, is the largest telecommunications project in which Tesla has participated to date
Tesla is working with a number of telecommunications companies around the world and sees a combination of solar panels and battery storage as a good opportunity to expand its business in countries and areas where electricity supply is erratic or non-existent, a company spokesperson said.

Tesla in Berlin

'Berlin rocks,' says Elon Musk as he chooses European factory

Tesla's chief executive, Elon Musk, has said Berlin will be the site of its first major European factory as the carmaker's expansion plans power ahead.

"Berlin rocks," Mr Musk said, adding Tesla would build an engineering and design centre in the German capital.

Tesla previously said it aimed to start production in Europe in 2021.

The moves come as the firm, which has also invested heavily in a Chinese factory, faces intensifying competition in the electric vehicle industry.
Brexit scheint in die Ueberlegungen eingeflossen zu sein (wie vermutlich bei vielen andern Firmen auch)
Mr Musk also cited risks surrounding the UK's exit from the EU for his decision, according to AutoExpress.

"Brexit [uncertainty] made it too risky to put a Gigafactory in the UK," he told the trade magazine.

Tesla Reports Record Output as Elon Musk Achieves Goal
Tesla said on Friday that it had produced over 100,000 vehicles and delivered even more in the fourth quarter of 2019, meeting a goal it had laid out to investors and ending the year on stronger footing than at the start.

In a statement, the electric-vehicle maker said it had delivered 112,000 cars in the final three months of last year and produced a record 104,891, showing healthy demand as it continues to focus on global growth.
“When you deliver more cars than you produce, you get into your bank more cash than you spent,” said Pierre Ferragu, an analyst with New Street Research. He said that would enable Tesla to continue its expansion, including its manufacturing presence in China, where cars are beginning to roll off a Shanghai assembly line.

Mr. Ferragu estimated that Tesla had delivered 60,000 vehicles in North America and 52,000 internationally in the fourth quarter. The company did not provide a breakdown.

Tesla cars are allegedly accelerating without warning, prompting government scrutiny
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday that it is weighing whether to launch an investigation into “sudden unexpected acceleration” of 500,000 Tesla vehicles, according to Reuters.

The petition covers Tesla Model S (2012-2019 model year), Model X (2016-2019), and Model 3 (2018-2019) vehicles, Reuters says. It also cites 127 consumer complaints, 123 unique vehicles, 110 crashes, and 52 injuries. A spokesperson for Tesla did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
