Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, has made plenty of bold predictions. They don’t always come true.

On Monday, Mr. Musk said the company was on the cusp of making cars that could drive themselves safely on any road. He also promised that the company would begin operating a fleet of driverless “robo taxis” by the end of next year.

Ich bin zugegenermassen ein Skeptiker bezügl. selbstfahrender Autos. Andrerseits muss ich zugeben, bei Voraussagen bezügl. der Leistungsfähigkeit con Computern meistens falsch gelegen zu haben. Hunderte von Billionen (10hoch12) Operationen pro Sekunde in Verbindung mit neuronalen Netzwerken sind natürlich schon eindrücklich. Aber die Zuverlässigkeit der damit Software?
Wenn ich sehe, wie die Leute in gewissen Ländern Auto fahren, kann ich mir allerdings schon vorstellen, dass selbstfahrenden Vehikel prozentual weniger (schwere) Unfälle verursachen

Tesla Posts Big Quarterly Loss as Its Electric-Car Sales Lag

Tesla’s surprisingly weak electric-car deliveries in the first quarter took a heavy toll on its bottom line.

The company said on Wednesday that it lost $702 million in the first quarter, a sharp reversal from the profits it made in the second half of last year. The loss, equivalent to $4.10 per share, was far greater than the $1.81 per share that Wall Street analysts, surveyed by FactSet, had forecast. The quarter’s revenue of $4.54 billion fell well short of expectations.

Another weak spot for the company was its solar business, where sales dropped by more than 35 percent in the quarter.

Drei Einstiegspunkte, drei Ausstiegspunkte. Hätte man sie getroffen, wäre es ja top gewesen. Hätte, wäre, wenn.
Ob es sich noch lohnt, nochmals einzusteigen? Der Vorsprung von Tesla schmilzt, andere werden aufholen. Ein Schwergewicht wird Tesla bei mir nie werden. So wenig wie VW..... Zudem, der langfristige Abschwung der Weltwirtschaft wird schon seit Monaten angekündigt. Sollte er tatsächlich eintreten, wird das einem (noch immer) Luxusgut zwar nicht schaden, aber dem "Durchschnitts-E-Auto" schon.

Barclays cut its price target on Tesla on Thursday and said the market is finally coming around to the firm’s thesis on the automaker.
The firm also said Tesla is “stalling as a niche automaker,” and cut its 12-month price target to $150 from $192.
“Model 3 demand is stagnating in the US, the company still doesn’t have a path to significant auto profitability and solar storage installations have declined sequentially over the past two quarters,” analyst Brian Johnson said.

Eine profitable Nischenfirma ist wohl immer noch besser als ein darbender Grosskonzern. Mal sehen was rauskommt, wenn Renault und Fiat/Chrysler fusionieren.

Tesla verdient Milliarden mit den Abgasen der Konkurrenz

Um sich trotz vieler Autos mit schwacher Umweltbilanz für strengere Abgasvorschriften zu rüsten, haben General Motors (GM) und Fiat Chrysler neue US-Emissionsrechte von Tesla gekauft. GM und Fiat Chrysler hätten diese Deals schon früher in diesem Jahr offengelegt.

Meine Fragen: Ist es sinnvoll, dass man sich Umweltverschmutzung kaufen kann? Sollen E-Auto Hersteller Dreckschleuder-Produkte unterstützen?

GM and Fiat Chrysler are buying Tesla’s regulatory credits

Typically, the ZEV [zero-emissions vehicle] credits have been purchased to meet California’s (and a handful of other states) stricter emissions regulations. GM’s comments seem to be aimed at protecting against federal regulations, even amidst efforts by the Trump administration to rolls back fuel economy and clean air standards that would presumably be friendlier to automakers.
But as Bloomberg and even Tesla’s own CFO Zachary Kirkhorn has noted, these ZEV credits stand to become a bigger part of Tesla’s business. A recent EPA report found that most large automakers used banked credits, along with technology improvements, to maintain compliance in model year 2017. Three large manufacturers achieved compliance based on the emission performance of their vehicles, without using additional banked credits, according to the EPA. The graph below, from the EPA’s report, shows how automakers have complied. However, the EPA notes, 92% of those credits are set to expire at the end of 2021 if they’re not used. The EPA added that more than half of the current balance is held by three manufacturers, and the availability of these or future credits is inherently uncertain, suggesting a run on ZEV credits in the future.

Meine Fragen: Ist es sinnvoll, dass man sich Umweltverschmutzung kaufen kann? Sollen E-Auto Hersteller Dreckschleuder-Produkte unterstützen?

Das ist sowieso eine Frage, die ich mir schon immer gestellt habe mit den Zertifikaten. Anstatt, dass die Politik ganz einfach Grenzwerte mit entsprechenden Kontrollen durchsetzt, werden Konstrukte gebaut, welche alles verlangsamen. Es ist gut, dass die Kinder aufgewacht sind. Wenigstens.

Tesla-Verlust lässt Aktie abstürzen

Hohe Kosten für Produktion und Auslieferung des Hoffnungsträgers Model 3 haben den US-Elektroautobauer Tesla im zweiten Quartal überraschend tief in die roten Zahlen gebracht. Die Aktie stürzte nachbörslich um mehr als zehn Prozent ab.

Tesla Loses Less Money as Model 3 Sales Surge

Tesla surprised many analysts and investors earlier this month when it said it delivered a record 95,200 cars in the second quarter, a roughly 50 percent increase from the first three months of the year. The news lifted its sagging stock price as well as the spirits of its customers and many fans.

On Wednesday, the company said that surge in sales also lifted its bottom line. Tesla said it lost $408 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $702 million in the first quarter when sales slumped as the company struggled with logistical challenges, including getting its Model 3 sedans to Europe and China.

The second-quarter loss amounted to $2.31 per share. Revenue jumped to $6.3 billion, from $4.5 billion in the first three months of the year.
